Taking Every Day Captive

"Yet, if at any stage of life you feel you're "flying by the seat of your pants," taking each day as it comes without having anticipated it, planned for it, shaped it, and prayed over it, then take time off and get back to poring over your goals. Then you will control your days, instead of letting them control you."
~Anne Ortlund~

'Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.'
~ Proverbs 29:18~

Why I started this blog...

Some of you might wonder, "why did she name her blog 'The Opportunity"? Well, it all started with this poem and others like it.
Opportunity
By Edward R. Still
This I beheld, or dreamed it in a dream:-
There spread a cloud of dust along a plain;
And underneath the cloud, or in it, raged
A furious battle, and men yelled, and swords
Shocked upon swords and shields,
A prince’s banner wavered, then staggered backward hemmed by foes.

A craven hung along the battle’s edge,
And thought, “Had I a sword of keener steel –
That blue blade that the king’s son bears– but this
Blunt thing!”– he snapped and flung it from his hand.
And lowering crept away and left the field.

Then came the king’s son, wounded, sore bestead,
And weaponless, and saw the broken sword,
Hilt-buried in the dry and trodden sand,
And ran and snatched it, and with battle-shout
Lifted afresh he hewed his enemy down,
And saved a great cause that heroic day.

After I had read this I thought about how much we have changed from the way in which the Reformers and Puritans lived. How we have strayed so far from having that straight line drawn between right and wrong, godly and sinful. We, as Christians, should stand up for our faith, not run when the battle gets hard or looks like we will loose! What kind of example are we to the world if we just shrug our shoulders and say "we'll just live and let live"? Did Christ do that when He spoke to the Pharisees? No, very much the opposite. "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness." Matthew 23:27
So what then should we do as His ambassadors?
For myself I enjoy writing and talking about issues and at times a bit too much. So I chose to have a blog where I can share what God has put on my hear. I hope this blog is an encouragement and exhorts you in your God given roles. Please feel free to leave a note or thought. Is there something that you disagree with or something that you would like to hear my opinion on? I'd love to hear from you!
I hope you all enjoy my Opportunity

The Wicked Always Despise the Godly

'The wicked hate the godly; there is enmity between the seed of the woman and the serpent Gen. 3:15. As in nature there is an antipathy between the vine and the bay tree, the elephant and the dragon. Vultures have an antipathy against sweet smells: so in the wicked there is an antipathy against the people of God; they hate the sweet perfumes of their graces. It is true the saints have their infirmities; but the wicked do not hate them for these, but for their holiness; and from this hatred ariseth open violence: the thief hates the light, therefore would blow it out.’

What is happening to our churches?

Segregation from Leclerc Brothers Motion Pictures on Vimeo.

This is a serious problem that I also have seen happen over and over again as well. It's time to change the way we teach, raise and train our children. The time is now! We are not of this world, just in it and it is time to stop trying to appeal to the world ("...Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God." James 4:4) and to start to "Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
Now is the time to change our churches before more of our children go astray because of the worldly views that we have allowed to grow in our churches. Let us not look back in 5, maybe 10 years to see the very name of Christendom a laugh and considered not but another religion by our very own children! Something they deride and reject as foolish childish stories!
Parents, Pastors, Elders,
The Time Is Now!
Don't wait until tomorrow for tomorrow never comes. We have but a moment on this earth to do God's will, let us not loose our children to the world through our own laziness.

"Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord! Who delights greatly in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed."

Psalm 112:1-2
"Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one's youth. Happy is the man who has a quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate."

Psalm 127:3-5
May what David stated be something we can be proud to claim as true with our families as well!

The First Blast of the trumpet Against The Monstrous Regiment of Women

This is a must see for everyone who thinks being feminine is just looking it or even if you don't see anything wrong with women being in authority over men! This DVD explains the problems with today's thoughts on equality and women's right to do as men do. Watch and see the disaster that us women have created by acting and believing in such a way as to destroy the very things that God puts highest of all...

'The 16th century reformer John Knox wrote his famous tract "The First Blast of the Trumpet Against the Monstrous Regiment of Women" to oppose a notorious European female tyrant who sought to stamp out biblical Christianity in his beloved Scotland. Today, the feminists are our monstrous regiment! This film calls women back to a life filled with joy and beauty that can only be found by following God's Word.'

"Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel—  rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God."
1 Peter 3:3-4

"...in like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works. And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. For Adam was formed first, then Eve."
1 Timothy 2:9-13

"Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything."
Ephesians 5:22-24

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."
2 Timothy 3:16-17

The Wisdom of God

Does not wisdom cry out, and understanding lift up her voice?
She takes her stand on the top of the high hill, beside the way where the paths meet. She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city, at the entrance of the doors:

“To you, O men, I call, and my voice is to the sons of men. O you simple ones, Understand prudence, and you fools, be of an understanding hearts. Listen, for I will speak of excellent things, and from the opening of my lips will come right things; For my mouth will speak truth; Wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are with righteousness; Nothing crooked or perverse is in them. They are all plain to him who understands, and right to those who find knowledge. Receive my instruction, and not silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold; For wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her.

“I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge and discretion.
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way and the perverse mouth I hate.

Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am Understanding, I have strength. By me kings reign, and rulers decree justice. By me princes rule, and nobles, all the judges of the earth.

I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me. Riches and honor are with me, enduring riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold, and my revenue than choice silver. I traverse the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of justice, that I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth, that I may fill their treasuries.

“The Lord possessed me at he beginning of His way, before His works of old. I have been established from everlasting, from the beginning, before there was ever an earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, When there were no fountains abounding with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth; while as yet He had not made the earth or the fields, or the primal dust of the world. When He prepared the heavens, I was there, when He established the clouds above, when He strengthened the fountains of the deep, when He assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters would not transgress His command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth, then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him, Rejoicing in His inhabited world, and my delight was with the sons of men.

“Now therefore, listen to me, my children, for blessed are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, and do not disdain it. Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. For whoever finds me finds life, and obtains favor from the Lord; But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; All those who hate me love death.”

Wisdom has built her house, she has hewn out her seven pillars; She has slaughtered her meat, she mixed her wine, She has also furnished her tale. She has sent out her maidens, she cries out from the highest places of the city, “Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him, “Come, eat of my bread and drink of the wine I have mixed. Forsake foolishness and live, and go in the way of understanding.
Proverbs 8-9:6
